Now, I'm aware that this is a _Linux_ mailing list :-) but this sort of solution is a _good_ one for promoting Open Source solutions. In practical terms, Apache runs just fine on a windows box, whether under Cygwin or natively. The same goes for MySQL, and PHP. The load levels are low, and one small box would be more than able to support a couple of client machines. But that isn't the point ... well, it isn't _my_ point :-) Open Source software != underlying operating system. Why not view the OS of a machine in the same light as the hardware - i.e. as long as you have an API to it, you're fine? There's nothing bad about running OSS on a windows machine, it may even be seen as a very practical 'thin end of the wedge' leading to taking more OSS, including the OS eventually. I'm suddenly struck by the realisation that I don't know where the source code for an Intel cpu is - but I don't see anyone clamouring for a replacement for them ... -jim
