Also, hda1 (C:) is bootable, and grub lets me boot it. It boots, spits out a message about windows 98(?! The specs on the box says it has XP), then drops to an "A>" prompt that responds to no known dos commands, not even "DIR". Maybe Win98 has been relegated to a bootloader status for XP. Maybe XP needs a 1.9Gb bootloader :-) Mandrake mounts is as /mnt/win_c/ and it has some systemy files. Anyway, once I get a DVD player going (Thanks CS for that link), who needs windows? Yuri
