Sure, the guy is in trouble, but I'd rather not see questions like that
here. The list has quite a number of people now (> 250 I think). I am
concerned (a bit paranoid perhaps?) that if we allow these sorts of
inappropriate questions it will be the thin end of a wedge. This list is
primarily about Linux and related topics. While the occasional OT post
is OK if the subject is likely to be of interest to many members of the
list (I'm guilty here), Sam's post definitely falls outside of the
(rather ill defined) line I would draw around what is appropriate to post.
I would suggest an appropriate reply to such posts is a polite reminder
of what the list is for, that the post is offtopic, and to ask the
question elsewhere. Who knows, Sam may have accidentially posted the
message here anyway.
A similar situation happened a few months ago when a younger member of
the list posted an inappropriate message. Nick Rout replied, and was
polite, even encouraging, yet firm. Very well handled I thought.
