Hi CLUGies

I have recently completed a clean up of my old installation of
Mandrake 9.1 running KDE 3.1.2 i586

everything was running fine but when I reinstalled the latest version
of the NVIDA driver the display manager refused to start

I have checked run levels etc. , and followed all the install
instructions for the NVIDA driver (which I have used previously
without problems), made the recommended mod to "/etc/innittab" all as
per previous installation etc. etc.

During the boot up the following messasage comes up:

"acpi daemon.... no such acpid ....can't open /proc/acpi/event..
.... proc/acpi/event no such file or directory..."

I have checked /proc/acpi/ and there is no "event" file/directory

I followed the NVIDIA instructions and uninstalled the new driver and
reset "/etc/innittab" to the default settings but when I reboot I
still get the same error message

also run level is set back to "5" - default any ideas??

cheers.............dave
