"emerge vegastrike" is less than 50 characters. :-) My 13 and a half year old has been doing that kind of command for about 18 months now.
What if the game is not in the current emerge tree? I can find a linux game I've never heard of every day if I try to (and I try to!) :-)
You fall back to the tar, configure, make, make istall routine then. And if you like it you make a .ebuild file for the gentoo portage tree.
Immortals like us can cope with that, but some Windows people cannot fathom even some very simple computer concepts...

I agree linux is not yet up to it as far as many convenience features are concerned, but for me it is the unique linux/unix things that make it for me.
I'm now at the point in my learning of the OS where I can appreciate those things too, but for the mindless masses? They don't want to know that stuff. They just wanna click and see it work...
PS. Is your boy still keen on some POVray scenes to play with? I've been having sooo much fun playing with macros to create objects with blended colours, and other nifty things!
Even if he isn't, and I'm sure he will be, his old Dad certainly is. Thanks very vuch.
OK. I'll tidy up some scenes and email to your direct address if thats OK? once you have them you'll see more easily how they work, and have fun altering them! :-)
Kind regards,
Chris Wilkinson, Christchurch.
