heaps of good reasons for not running your own mail server. If you
depend on email for your business-services, having your own domain(s)
is somewhat prudent, because you can then shift mail service without
disruption, should the current supplier become too obstinate.
Registerdirect might be a good choice for receiving mail, but they
don't have smtp. As sendmail/postfix/exim are out of the box, you don't
need smtp anyway. I never said to avoid Telecom at all cost, but
Paradise -> Telecom=Xtra is a step downhill. You're right that
Paradise's attitude has deteriorated ("if you don't like it, switch to
a different ISP"). The problems you describe with ADSL seem like
typical ADSL problems to me, though I have no direct personal
experience with ADSL. On the positive, at least you could shift to
Orcon - I can't (so far, Telstra/Paradise cable outperforms Telecom
ADSL). Legal action would seem to be a waste of time - plenty of good
ADSL ISPs around.
