I use a redirector for my domain. It is based in the states, closer to the 
central DNS servers so changes get sent out pretty quickly.

...and the only way to stop that is to say no to them a few times...and the 
only way to say no to them in a way they understand is to cost them money 
either by removing custom and lots of it or else taking legal action. It may

Not if you live in the NW of Chch. The fendaltonites didn't want cable laid so 
there is none here. I cannot go line of sight or satellite either, I did try. 
Telstra tells me we are the last place who will be getting cable so until 
then I am stuck using telecom based copper and paying an ISP on top of it. 
:-(
