One thing I've run into on occassion is temperature effects of the
motherboard and accompanying peripherals.  If there is a minute crack in
your board somewhere, it could be entirely fine, until the temperature
gets up.  As parts expand under heat, contacts become a little less
reliable.

This is a bit of a longshot, but I've seen it happen, and it's a bugger
to diagnose conclusively.

I'm sure none of this is actually helpful information for your
particular problem, but it is a possibility that I thought might be good
to share.
