As we have so far got only Uttam and his SmartLink WinModem to be made to go. I'm sure there will be room for you.

Uttam, please could you confirm that you will be bringing your machine?

...and I will confirm I shall bring my temperamental scanning setup in... :-)

If yes I will download the latest binary and source
RPM's and also gzipped source (the lot!), and haul the beast in on
Wednesday nite...

I still have those, but I got the blighter to compile! Only now when it runs it says 'Cannot send command to scanner'. My best efforts thus far fail to unravel this latest mystery, so I will bring the machine tomorrow for some more expert minds to probe...at least it doesn't segfault before doing anything! :-)

Please can you have a look at the epkowa site at:-
http://www.epkowa.on.arena.ne.jp/iscan/data/manual_e/hmanual_e/INDEX.htm
and have a read through so that you can point errors out when your helper runs off the straight and narrow.

I've had a good read of this, but nothing that wasn't with the docs in the downloaded packages exists to help here...

As an alternative I seem to remember that there is a French fellow who has got the scanner in question to go in a different way. Found the site.

http://www.linux-france.org/article/gvallee/scanner/epson1260-en.html

While these patches are intended to work with particular xsane / kernel versions ( sane-1.0.8 / linux-2.4.19 ) they are so obvious that I'm sure later kernel and sane versions could be patched, by hand if necessary.

What kernel do you run currently?

I'm on 2.4.21-0.13mdk, and using sane 1.0.11. Everything in sane and Xsane works fine (apart from poor scan quality), but just that pesky iscan thing seems to be the trouble maker...

Kind regards,

Chris Wilkinson, Christchurch.
