Hi Rowan,
Be VERY, VERY aware that upgrading to 9.2, while it does have newer packages is a process fraught with difficulty. 9.2 is full of major bugs. Something like 400meg of updates released in only a month or so. It is not just with things that are hardly used either, but things you use all the time - do you use KDE or Gnome? if you use KDE then you may want to seriously reconsider upgrading to 9.2. It is hellishly broken. I managed to get KDE working (after many hours) but then reinstalled, this time I couldn't. If you want the upgraded oo.org and other stuff I would recommend installing them manually from the net or disc - in any case the downloading you will have to do for any upgraded packages will be less than the necessary updates for 9.2. I understand there are discs of updates available but they may already be out of date. Having said all that, some things do seem to work better, like some of the wizards, and I think some of the eye candy is heaps nicer.
Cheers
Anton
ps I personally think KDE kicks Gnomes butt in functionality and integrated apps, as far as I can tell (1 mth of 2.4) the KDE on 9.1 is still considerably better.

Hello Chad

I am currently running Mandrake 9.1 and I am considering installing
9.2.
I hope that the disabling of supermount is easy.

Can anyone tell me if Mandrake 9.2 is any reasonable advance over 9.1 ?
I won't bother to upgrade if there isn't much change.

New packages. I haven't used 9.2 but I think it comes with openoffice.org 1.1 and gnome 2.4 which are defiantly worth upgrading. I use debian sid and upgrade weekly ;)

Hi

What distro are you runing? As supermount can cause problems with some CD binary installation programs. If Mandrake or Gentoo gaming kernel you may have to disable supermount and manually mount the CD. If you are running one of those distros or one of the others that uses Supermount let me know and I'll provide instructions for disabling supermount so you can install the game then renable it.
