uses PTP ( photo transfer protocol ) so I require gphoto2 to access it.
I managed to get it to work partly as a standard ptp camera but had to wait about 6 months
for it to be included in the latest version of gphoto2.

no gphoto2 is basically for older models. newer stuff usually uses usb-storage, so gphoto2 is not needed.
Unfortunately, in my experience, those 400 cameras do not include recent models.
