Thanks for the offer - however the server in question is a commercial
one, so I won't take you up on that. Other CLUG members might benefit
more :-)

That sounds slightly tempting, but scary - I doubt that the ide
subsystem has been well tested as a module, and unloading it might lead
to instability. In any case, I don't have a non-IDE root drive ... in
theory I suppose you could use initrd to copy a root onto another
ramdisk ... that would be a challenge!
