Hi Nick,

Yes i did read the URPMI, RPM, Xfree86, X, .Xauth, and a number of other man 
pages.

the helpful part for me was when i tried to see what packages of the X system 
where loaded and it told me that the xfree86-server-4.3-8mdk package wasn�t 
installed.

thing is _why_ was it unloaded in the first place ???

I think i did miss a some thing out (an attempt to stop myself from rambling 
<g>).

I preferred to use the GUI not sure on manually pppding ( and yes i looked at 
the man pages and my only attempt locked the system up - more than likely my 
miss use).

got a copy of the server rpm via windoze off the net.
