could you please post the following:

the result of this command:

rpm -qa|grep -i xfree

I think you may be using the rpm command wrong to see what is
installed.

to query for the xfree package installed you type:

rpm -q xfree

NOT

rpm -q xfree-4.3-whatever.rpm

Therefore the package may actually be there, you just aren't looking
quite right perhaps.

(don't forget it may be xfree and it may be XFree, caps make a
difference, hence the -i in the grep in the line I asked you to post the
result of.

You could also post for us the contents of /var/log/XFree86.0.log - this
contains the log of the latest attempt to start X.
