I noticed before xmas that there were a number of 56k ISA modems available in molten media.
Now these things (ISA modems) always seem to fully emulate a serial port properly (in the way described by Volker). Maybe worth a look if anyone is looking for a modem for a ipcop box. ipcop will run on an older machine, and they will often have ISA slots.
