4> Just bought a Play Station 2 with Gran Turismo 3. The reason I bought a PS2 over an XBox is that someone told me that you can buy a Linux kit for it, and it'll run a 'butchered' version of Linux quite tidily... Anyone have any information about this?
You would have been able to get a much nicer install of Linux on an xbox... Although it would possibly have required some modifications. I think it is now possible to install Linux without modifying the xbox (Not sure if you can keep playing games though) But when I had my xbox I had a full install of Debian on it quite happily (I did make some modifications though, including a 120GB hdd and a mod-chip. I also had to buy a USB keyboard and mouse and some adaptors to plug them into the xbox.
It has since been sold and replaced with a pc.
I did see an article about a linux kit for PS2 a few years ago, but that would be the limit of my knowledge about it. I think it included a hdd. The big advantage of the xbox is the built in hdd and the fact that the processor is nearly twice as fast.
If you're interested in xbox linux (which you probably aren't, try xbox-linux.sourceforge.net)
