Hi, just new to Linux. Have a Debian 3.02r2 installation, with samba
running. I want to hook up my Windows pc to make a network. Have
selected "file server" and "web server" in tasksel.
The ip address of debian is 192.168.0.1, apache is running so if I start
lynx and open 192.168.0.1 or debian I can see the Apache default home
page so the machine's ip addrress must be correct, also ping debian works.
Samba has the workgroup name WORKGROUP as does the Windows machine. The
windows machine can see itself (they are connected via a crossover
cable) but can't see debian, debian can ping itself but not the windows
machine. debian has a Realtek 8139 card and I installed a driver for it
during installation. Network card lights are on so we appear to have a
good hardware connection.
I'm assuming that I need to check the network configuration at a fairly
basic level, what commands are used to do this.
