Re zonealarm, I have an ip range covering these IP addresses in the trusted zone.
I see that on a windows machine, I can see the workgroup name that the mandrake notebook is in, but can't do anything with it. > No, i meant installed on the laptop. Try, as root, iptables -L on the > laptop. I get "command not found". ?do I need to cd to a particular folder first? > Any replies? I guess not. Does the light next to the network > connection flash at all? No replies. I see that when I issue a ping, initially there is a very brief, single flash only, even if I do ping 192.168.0.255 -c 7 -b (would have thought I'd see 7 flashes???) > Try "dmesg | grep -A 10 8139" > > > Also, what does arp -a tell you? First time I tried that, it came up with something like: ? 192.168.0.1 <incomplete> (and some other output I don't remember) and then another line for 192.168.0.7 - these were the 2 machines I tried pinging. Now that I try it again, it gives no output, but returns me to the prompt! it's a long way up from the bottom of the learning curve...
