Re zonealarm, I have an ip range covering these IP addresses in the trusted zone.

I see that on a windows machine, I can see the workgroup name that the mandrake
notebook is in, but can't do anything with it.

I get "command not found".  ?do I need to cd to a particular folder first?

No replies.  I see that when I issue a ping, initially there is a very brief,
single flash only, even if I do ping 192.168.0.255 -c 7 -b (would have thought
I'd see 7 flashes???)

First time I tried that, it came up with something like:
?  192.168.0.1  <incomplete>   (and some other output I don't remember) 

and then another line for 192.168.0.7 - these were the 2 machines I tried
pinging.  Now that I try it again, it gives no output, but returns me to the
prompt!  

it's a long way up from the bottom of the learning curve...
