>I got my crimping tool, rj45 crimp plugs and a flush box at DSE. >I put the flush box at one end of the cable and an rj45 plug at the other end.
>So why does it not work? >What else can anyone think of. Hmmm... You've got an RJ45 on plug crimped on one end and a wall plate socket on the other? What kind of cable did you use, solid or stranded? Patch and fly leads are normally made of stranded cable. Cat5 for permanant wiring (the stuff in the 300 metre boxes) is solid cable. They have different RJ45 crimp connectors. The ends of the metallic contacts that bite into the strands of the cable when you crimp it are different - this on-line shop shows the differences http://www.homestead.co.uk/amp45.htm. Dick Smiths only sell the connectors for stranded cable. Last time I wanted some RJ45s for solid cable I had to get them off a commercial supplier. Conversly, I don't know how well using stranded cable in a wall plate socket is going to work either. Wayne
