I'd recommend you deal with Dataworld for buying the real stuff. Not Dick Smiths who are fairly expensive as well.Patch and fly leads are normally made of stranded cable. Cat5 for permanant wiring (the stuff in the 300 metre boxes) is solid cable.
They have different RJ45 crimp connectors. The ends of the metallic
contacts that bite into the strands of the cable when you crimp it are
different - this on-line shop shows the differences

for stranded cable. Last time I wanted some RJ45s for solid cable I had to
get them off a commercial supplier.
