If you hit the "reply to:" then you *didn't* start a new thread.
Even if you did then change the subject line.
That called "hijacking the thread" or threadjacking and changing the subject line doesn't change the "In-reply-to:" header.
If you don't like typing in the address for a new list message then put it in your address book.
