You'd be better off working out why it didn't work and resolving the
problem rather than propogating yet another hack to solve the problem.
With your proposed fix, you will potentially cause grief around any
system upgrades that attempt to update or replace the the file in
/etc/init.d that you've modified.
Obiviously you can do what you like with your system, but it makes much
more sense to offer the correct solutions to other users before offering
such hacks.
