Ah! So it did work at least once. There are some patches which require a reboot afterwards.
Could that be your problem?

I have done the updates twice! both times i rebooted and both times could not use yast after. I noticed that a couple of the patches were for yast. Now im to scared to try the updating again as i have reinstalled Suse and all is working OK now------jeff
Are you "connected" OK?
Do you have a proxy server?
Does it find mirrors OK?
Regards, Robert
Connected via dial up 56k modem, (Dont know proxy server?) Found German
mirror ,Downloaded patches then installed them OK but yast would not work
afterward------jeff
You mean the updates didn't work, rather than YaST itself?..
I had this 'problem' too. After the install & 1st online update, the next time I tried there was a 'cannot write to file' type error, & all the European mirrors listed initially disappeared from the site selection menu. (Probably to do with a service license we don't have.)
But you can edit them or any others you like back in manually. Go to this page http://www.infohelp.co.nz/linuxnz.html bottom right FTP listings, & input an Aussie FTP or HTTP SuSE host to YaST - it should then work for you.
I'll keep adding to this list (from another install, I've noted the original settings now) - experiment with different sources & report back.
Cheers
Rik
