The SLmodem driver hangs the system, & I haven't seen a Conexant one working yet either. Something that may get you up & running quicker is to obtain a pcmcia modem (if you have the slot) - c$35 2nd-hand from the Computer Broker, I believe. You may want to get one for tonight. [Robert Fisher] I helped with the SuSE installations on Ralph's and Trevor's machines in the weekend. Both modems were auto detected by YaST so I guessed that they should both work - Trevor's certainly did. In past experience if the modem was auto-detected it usually works. (I may be wrong with this assumption though) I think that the "helpers" on Saturday, and the question about wether the phone line actually worked, may have led Ralph down a wrong track. Unfortunately I cannot make it tonight but I can say that Trevor's machine allowed us to use the default SuSE dial-up of "kinternet" and with sensible settings it just worked. You can start kinternet from the.... Menu > Internet > Dialup You can configure the modem from... Menu > System > YaST > Network Devices > Modem HTH Rob
