The phone did work as others were able to dial out on it. The last thing I
looked at were permissions on pppd (set correctly), firewall settings (no
difference if firewall on or off). The only other thing of note was that
the box didn't give a dial tone so we couldn't tell if it was going off
hook but... the logs showed a definate 15-20 second lag between the daemon
starting and failing which might imply a connectivity issue. The suggestion
was to test again using someone elses address on a different ISP, one known
to work on a different box (or use Ralphs Slingshot id on another box) just
to eliminate ISP login issues.
