It could *also* start a --no-console GDM, that has XDMCP=true ... the Explora will locate this instance, and display it's output?
OK, I now have a working config ...
From init, I start kdm, which is left as default, including xdmcp=false I also start gdm, with xdmcp=true, but with no Xservers specified.
kdm starts an X server on my console, and things work as normal.
gdm talks over xdmcp to my Explora's X server, and lets me log in over there.
Now all I have to do is go back and set up fonts, which I neglected early on in the process. :-)
