While burning there's nothing mounted, and there were no further processes involved - the only appliccable process, cdrecord, terminated as it should when I told it to with ^C. Wild guess: the kernel is unable to shut down DMA and return drives to responsive states (I have seen similar behaviour when accessing a disk inserted into a dvdrom drive before the drive had finished deciding that yes there was a readable disk in it). I could never find a command line program which can reset drive/ide bus either. Can sticking a paperclip into the emergency eject hole while the drive is going damage anything?
