oops, I kinda assumed you already knew about apt-get. You will need to be root to run that command. type 'su', then enter your root password, then try it again. you might also like to read 'man apt-get'. if you intend to use a debian based system you'll need to at some point :) try others suggestions before removing / reinstalling KDE, as even this is quite drastic and likely unnecessary.
