Gauranga!
Hoping this finds all well. Unfortunately, for some reason, list mail is
not being received (perhaps it is not being sent). Sorry if anyone in this
forum has felt offended. That is not the intention. As for the purpose of
Linux, if it is as stated below, then it is not what it was thought to be by
those involved with Hare Krishna. If what is stated below is true, then why
such graphic images on the internet as that of the Linux "mascot" wrestling
with Bill Gates, as if to overcome him in battle? Must just be imagination.
Also, the "platform for OSS developers to use without legality issues" is
fine, but then there are "end-users" wanting a "platform to use without
legality issues" also. So, is Linux only a developers platform, as you say?
No. There are users of that platform also. Linux is being clearly advertised
as *the* non-proprietary alternative to proprietary/capitalistic products,
and people are being encouraged to use it, as an alternative to proprietary
products. Anyway, if it is just a "developers platform" then have fun. But
don't expect anyone to use it. It will just be a developers masturbation
tool, in that case. Just another form of play in this world. But, please
consider, that not everyone here is playing. Some people actually take life
seriously.
As for this apparent "developers platform" (toy), such "developers"
would do well to let people know that's what it is, namely for the "fun" of
the developers, and stop advertising it as being in opposition to companies
like Microsoft. Anyway, ultimately all things that have a beginning, have an
end also. Computers (including Linux) have a beginning in history, and
therefore will also have an end. It is inevitable and unavoidable, like
death. Fortunately death is NOT the end (despite some people's foolish
speculative opinions).
