Not surprising really, It's a SecurityPolicy file from a modern X-11 server
being used on an antique one. Delete the lines it is moaning about.

No, No news is good news on Unix - always.

Strange to say the least!

Let's try and find it then. Unless I'm very much mistaken it must be
somewhere. Try these two commands which might take a few minutes on an older
machine, please be patient:-

locate X | grep "\.log"

It's important to remember that you are playing around with a very old Linux
distribution which is using a similarly old X-11 server. These particular
lessons you are learning about it, while interesting, are no longer
particularly relevant to the situation today. From that point of view Nick is
correct.

I suspect that your config file for the X-11 server is not yet quite correct.
Until version 4 of the X-11 server it was always an iterative process.

Have you tried to run the xf86config tool which sets up the XF86Config file?
It asks you a Gazillion erudite questions about your video card and monitor
and then writes out an XF86Free.conf file which might just work correctly.
( They usually didn't and needed tweaking up by hand )
You might also find a mode line calculator to be useful. This one seems to
work pretty well:-

It's but one of many. Google will find them.
