My bad. The program is called "nvidia-settings" and it sits in
"/usr/bin".

Maybe some of the logs will be more useful. Could you (off list) send me
a copy of your X config, X log and "/var/log/nvidia-installer.log"? I
will go through them and see if there is any glaring differences between
the systems.
