I agree. I think the idea computer OS for many home users (ie, my parents) would simply be mozilla on a kiosk style machine. A machine they can turn on & have boot in a second or two, and turn off without having to "power down".
I'm not saying we should do away with general purpose computers - just that they're inappropriate for many users who only require a fraction of the functionality. A set-top box would be ideal for those who only need to browse web pages, send and recieve email and create/edit the occassional document.
We're geeks. The set-top idea is not for us. That doesn't it's not good for others. I like to drive a manual, and I like to have rpm, battery voltage and oil pressure meters on my dashboard. Others prefer an automatic with idiot lights.

I haven't seen this style of "computer" in NZ, but if I could buy one for say $300, I would and it would be going to my parents.
