huh? BSD and linux are two seperate entities?

For that matter, Unix is separate from Linux?

On the technical level no,
on the commercial level yes. And this is the world we choose Operating Systems in.

http://www.guug.de is a great looking example of where we could be heading to.

It's somewhere different from what we have now though; hence motion for change.

- Our list reads like a UUG(ly), but is named differently (imho). Hence the raw-newbie trap.

I am quite happy to subcontract an interim repair, offering limited newbie support etc. It is necessary to resolve the naming error (bug).

So that leads to a more generic "unix users group" - which would definately be interesting :-)

Yes, hanging in here long enough should graduate us to *nixhood. :-)

The trouble is, the miscellanous user levels & OTs preclude both running a business effectively and staying actively involved (mail quantities). One pays the ISP, the other takes more and more time. I can save half an hour on meeting nights by running them in Sydenham. That's valuable.

While the spec isn' t (a clear) one, I've no choice but to wind down direct involvement, for long-term viability.

But I wish all you guys well in how you shape the LUG. I've learnt a lot. Thanks for having me (on :-)

On the other hand, there is also a good position for an "open source software"[1] grouping, which should include people running on non-free systems, windows being the obvious starting point, but others too. There is a lot of open source available for windows, but people still think that they should steal shareware instead of using open source - free as in beer being their only criteria.
