He'll have to remove the old default route which was via the RED nic.
That's done useing the totally counter intuitive 'setup' utility.
Either run setup from a root login or login as the setup user.
It's not necessary to physically remove the card.

If you can't get it to go, a quick check is to connect using the modem and 
then 'say':

route -n

and tell us what it said.
