Restarting a tty-session

Sometimes I mess up my sessions so much that I have to restart them. 
Under X I can use "killall X". Is there an equivalent for tty-sessions 
(C-M-F(1-6))?

The syntoms of broken graphical sessions are disappearing of the cursor 
and freezing when I try to log out. tty-session sometimes don't react 
any more.
