CSS is one of those skills that rapidly claw back time for anyone
seriously maintaining a web site. ie. Learn it sooner than later.
I came to FOSS from a monitor repair background, which taught me that
underworking the colour guns and phosphors extended the screen life - MTBF.
Apart from that, I find the lower radiation a lot easier on my eyes than
black on white, for extended work periods.
Not quite a logic I would use, but still, I think it is the number of
saturated colours that give it's umm, lack of, umm, shall we say, lack of
european chic.

dualism (yin/yang) is more dynamic philosophically than Judeo-Christian black
& white discrimination. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
There are some interesting cross cultural issue here, I believe green is
the colour of death in Hindu culture, giving rise to interesting thoughts
as to what a Hindu Goth Style would look like.
Style-poor/content-rich is a choice few
are prepared to make anymore.
Fortunately in the world of view page source, it is no longer an either or
decision for those with content.
