Open a virtual teminal ( Ctrl+Alt+F1 ) and login as root cd to the base directory of where your files are and execute this command:- chown -R kelvyn:users . Yes, that full-stop/period is supposed to be separated by a space. ( That's assuming that your login identity is actually 'kelvyn' ) This will change the ownership of all files and directories in the base directory and all subdirectories to you.
