I never complained about *that* there is an outage, things happen (though it's now approaching 12 hours), I asked whether anyone knew any interesting details about why (by the sound of the techie) almost all Surfboard modems aren't reconnecting.

To the best of my knowledge, there never has been one before (and my custom to Paradise goes back some years), and I have otherwise plain no reason to visit paradise.net.nz other than for the occasional webmail, and ISP settings, both bookmarked. networkstatus.telstraclear.co.nz has consistently shown "no known problems" all morning, which is plain incompetent, though I suppose you'll argue the problem's not with Telstra, never mind that they damn well know who my cable ISP is and that I pay my money to them. Considering that service providers don't usually have a problem making sure I know of any new services they offer, it's disorganised they can't send a disruption announcement. I'm not getting into bush lawyer arguments about T&Cs. Saying to sign up with a better ISP is a cheap quip, you very well know that fast internet alternatives are limited and all suck one way or another. All in all cable is among the top.
