You can just register for a Hobbyist though, and that's only $225. FWIW
though, having been to 3 LCA's now, it's one of the best technical
conferences I've been to and I *totally* recommend it. You also get a
pretty decent swag bag [tshirts, CD's, etc..] and get to attend 6 days
of quality talks and tutorials. Last year that included copious amounts
of coffee and sugary treats at the morning and afternoon breaks too -
you could almost eat your $225 in donuts [grin].

I may be driving down, but probably won't decide that until early
January - will try and see if I can convince my company to fly me down
instead :)
