Oh there are some really nifty and very small notebooks around. Trouble is finding one which costs less than many thousand $$... I was hoping to restrict myself to 3 digits, DVD burner, big screen, fast CPU, bla bla <nice things to have in a top-notch computer> are all unnecessary for the job at hand. I could live with the separate keyboard, as that has the advantage of not needing a second keyboard for some more serious work. > There is the new TX series but they are more "very small" than "ultra small" > and probably really expensive. Yep, not terribly small or terribly light, otherwise standard notebook, ie I don't have the 3 legs they cost... :( Btw Textmaker http://www.softmaker.de/tm.htm is available for Linux and Sharp Zaurus, as well as wince-based PDAs (ok so that's no use). But the Zaurus were pulled from the Oz market for negligable sales volume some while back.
