Sorry to say but IMOH the commerce commision will be as effective as a going
against a N'rwester at any strength and throwing water at it.

Why? Because they've had since 2000 at least to hit telecom with all the
power they could use but they're too scared 'cause Theresa might pull the
plug on upgrading the copper lines and the poor cocky and non urban dwellers
will be left hanging so to speak.

A much better way me thinks is for Helen to ask ever so nicely to Mr/Mrs head
of BCL (transmission arm of TV signals and the like) to start offering
wireless boardband carrier service (meaning cheaper and higher speeds) than
telecom can. Let ISP's do the touting for business.

(note BCL could make it a part of it's charter to only allow non national
telecos access to the service)

Thus telecom is ignored the Kiwishare is ignored (due to BCL taking up rural
customers - or should i say other ISPs doing that).

And well telecom will improve things and cut costs etc but will be really
fighting for market share and without the Govt having to go to court.

best case is Govt/BCL drags it's feet like telecom does at the moment and well
let market reality do the hurting.

'cause until telecom has it's monopolist position removed (and they'll fight
very very hard to keep it) legal moves and not so legal (ie carrot offers to
Govt depts and like) to keep it. Telecom won't move.

We need a business that's got the infrastructure there and know how in place
to provide a national carrier grade service to all nz and undermind telecoms
market share.

Once you get their market share they will be forced to move or get broken up.

And well how many years have i seen things like telecom going to lose local
loop blah blah blah.

Clear then telstra where supposed to give telecom a whipping but it hasn't
happened.

forget the commerce commision they're hand wringing gutless spinless ....
pack of burrocarts that don't live in reality.

well I know after that rant i feel a bit better don't know about you all.

And you can agree or disagree to part or all of what i've said _but_ the
bottom line is the monopoly (that is telecom) has to go!
