Cheers Andy, Awesome link. I'm just working through it now. First question - Under Resolver Information it talks about a /etc/resolve.conf file. I can't find this. However, I do have an /etc/ppp/resolv/maxnet file but its empty apart from the comment # resolv.conf created by pppconfig for maxnet.
Good to be working through this and getting an understanding of whats happening instead of just trying random possible fixes. Yes, your recap is accurate. I initially screwed up by trying to resolve another situation and modifying a config file which then somehow interfered with bootup.
