I'm a bit late into this thread - sorry in advance if I repeat previous suggestions. 1) Can the other machines on the network ping / ssh / web access the new one? 2) Have you tried turning off any firewall software on the computer to see if that's intefering? 3) You're not accidently using a crossover ethernet cable from the new computer to the router are you? I've done that a couple of times.
