Oh?

It appears to be a net install, but you can also use the jigdo tool to 
create a CD.

AFAIK, a lot of server stuff is on the CDs.

All you have to do is to give root a password
sudo passwd root 

That worked for me a while ago.
Or do you mean the unmentionable 'lets defeat the groups' notion.
