Only problem is that it is not officially in the Kernel, unjustifiably in
my opinion, and has to be patched in. I have been using Reiser4 for nearly
a year on my lappie if I remember correctly, more than six months anyway,
with no problems whatsoever, whereas all the other file systems I have
used over the years have bombed out in some way or other, all losing data.

I don't think that Reiser4 is exactly the fastest of all file systems, but
it does appear to be much more secure than any of the others I have tried.
Secure in the sense of not losing data. Also if set to be nice, huge file
operations don't bog the machine while other less sophisticated
filesystems make the machine completely unusable.

My experience too. While in Dunedin I did hear that XFS's quite serious
problems about a year ago have been fixed. I no longer feel happy to trust
it.

The problems with Reiser4 are not technical. It is that there is a huge
emotional gulf separating Linus and Hans, neither of whom appear to want
to do much about closing the gap.

fwiw, I did a Gentoo install last week and selected JFS. It worked fine for
a few hours, and I have no reason to suspect that it would not continue to
do so.
