FYI, I think a Debian base system is around 500mb. At my current job I
have had to do alot of compiling for Fedora and have clean chroot build
environments so can give you exact figures, these are for the base
system plus a few extras for compiling and package building:
1.4G fc5-buildroot
1.3G fc4-buildroot
