Personally, I'd save what you need, then reformat and install from scratch. 
Even bill reckons this is the best way. As Chris says, use Knoppix to dump what 
you want to USB stick if poss.

If you haven't the media, then I can burn you one tomorrow.

Same with free avg, spybot...
