Hi Barry,

Welcome to the ranks of people who feel it's important to tell me off like I'm a child.

The language being used lately has been getting a bit rough and I find that used in your posting yesterday offensive

I agree.

I found the number of offensive emails I've received, directly for using FLOSS as a term rather than FOSS, *insane*.

I found people abusing me on list offensive.

In the past month I've had people leaving messages on my home answering machine that *upset my wife*.

My wife has made it very clear that I am not to attend GNUZ meetings anymore.

and it is not helpful to your project or to your business pursuits.

Yes. You're quite right.

There are any number of lists around the world where people don't make snide comments about the mail program I'm using and just stick to the point.

Perhaps you didn't pick up on the number of snide comments that have been made?

Perhaps you should do a quick review...

Perhaps I should just forward you the offensive emails I've had off list... I suspect you'll for give the odd on list transgression.

You are being offered a lot of advice, accept it gracefully and sift it carefully, then query it if you do not agree.

I've received a great deal of very unhelpful comments - that was exactly what trashed my computer in the first place - following an unhelpful suggestion.

What gets me, is that the giver of the least helpful suggestion then went on to make comment after comment after comment about what I'd been left with. All this while I was busy trying to do more to promote a cause that he's express sadness about because most of the CLUG didn't seem to care a toss about it - See: http://www.tcn.bowenvale.co.nz/content/view/23/17/

What also gets me is that if I choose to try one thing and not another then half the CLUG gets miffed.

As for my project and business pursuits...

Have a quick review of the home page at www.tcn.bowenvale.co.nz - which project would you be referring to?

These people are complaining at me when I said they weren't to use any profanity at all, including terms like S**T.

Recently I've been stepping away from projects because of heated religious debate which lead to offensive emails being sent to me.

As for business pursuits... Yes those are important to me.

If I just stick to Microsoft Software and make people pay for it and give CLUG, FLOSS, FOSS, Nix, GUNZ and the rest away and return to a world of web sites built on ASP, SQLServer and Visual InterDEV, I may get more done.

with your experience you should know upgrading can often cause problems, especially if you go down a track from which you can not back out. It is always safer to do a new install on an empty ptn. Keep your working files elsewhere so you can access them from each of your bootable installs. Upgrading is not always the way to go, especially if your existing instal is performing ok.

Yes, thank you for that reminder.

I've never seen an OS upgrade that manged to screw up as much in the OSS space as I have recently.

I have to confess I've become complacent in recent times because I don't get problems when ever I click on the 'install updates' icon in XP. I've got used to the software just working.

Talking of projects thou...

I have to confess in recent days I've been doing quite a bit of review.

7 years ago when I started looking at the idea of improving internet connectivity and I didn't know squat about OSS, FLOSS, FUSS or anything other than the MS world.

I was living in a world where MS were taking companies to court if they didn't install MS products on machines.

MS were hunting down companies that were not licencing software.

MS Windows 98SE also didn't have enough tools to build 'MiniPOPs' out of.

The XBox hadn't even debuted.

Today we live in a different world.

I could build MiniPOPs out of MS products over night. I don't have to worry about the MS Police anymore, they're way to busy fighting off the world of OSS that's taking on their Desktop and Server markets to worry about me.

If I keep getting abused for using FLOSS as a term rather than FOSS, and snide comments for using an OSS tool on XP then I'm just going to give the whole thing away as a bad joke.

Now I've got people demanding that I am removed from this list, when all I'm trying to do is learn and get stuff to work.

Yes I have reacted when people have a go at me. That's the sort of person I am.

Cheers Don
