I hope it works better, but LiveCDs aren't what you'd end up working with and can be quite slow. The newer Ubuntu 6.06 is free if you want a copy - live/install. Also some home help & monthly support meetings.
The Modem is an Agere Win Modem.
You are in luck. This should run out of the box with SuSE. Other distros incl. Ubuntu support it too.
