CLUG is not only for home users, there are among its members several business entities. I think how Chris Sawtell described it fits better: a hobby group. Lucky for some they can make a living out of this hobby and here is where I think the common points begin to show up.
This idea emerged from the desire to make CLUG and its activities better known. It is well advertised in my understanding to the neighbourhood community. The thought was that it can also benefit if it is made known to the business community as well. How, it is still a matter of discovery, because as you already pointed out their scopes are somehow different. It is more an opportunity I can suggest to CLUG members as the shape of the event is not entirely defined until three to four weeks prior to the event.
